If you are interested in clock making, this is the place to start. I own several Workshop Practice Series books, and each of them does an excellent job of educating the reader in their subject. This book is no exception.The book covers the entire subject of clock making in good detail, and explains all of the basic mechanisms involved. By basic I mean just the parts that are essential to make a clock work. There is no coverage of hour chimes, alarms, or other complications, as they are called. The clocks covered are metal, not wood, although the theory applies.Photos are black and white, but the figures are very easy to read. I would prefer color photos, but that's just aesthetics, as the book is very readable.

This is about how a clock works and the process of making one -- the tools required and skills. At the end the author points you toward several available kits and plans for actual clocks to build.
Workshop practice series are all good books. None of them are very expensive, and I'm an engineer but these are written for the dude who doesn't want to think about things but actually wants to build things. ..... Seems to be a British influence in the books, but the Britts/ Scots are good engineers and actually probably better engineers than the famed Germans or Japanese ...and they print in English:) I recommend this whole series.
I have no intention of making a clock - and indeed anyone so interested would need both tools and perhaps more detail, but as an introduction of what goes into clock-making, this is both fascinating and informative. Highly recommended to any like myself with a fascination for clocks!
