About the Author
Born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Marcos Mateu-Mestre is a visual concept, traditional animation layout, and graphic novel artist with 25 years of experience in feature animation. Some of his film credits include Balto, The Prince of Egypt, Asterix and the Vikings, Surf’s Up, and How to Train your Dragon 2. His work in film, primarily for DreamWorks Animation and Sony Pictures Animation, has been focused on both the design and cinematic aspects of frame composition, lighting, and visual continuity of many key animation sequences, experience he summed up in his international best-selling book Framed Ink: Drawing and Composition for Visual Storytellers. In addition to his work in film, he has taught drawing, illustration, and visual storytelling techniques for 12 years and been a member of several international film festivals. Mateu-Mestre currently lives in Los Angeles.

...And i own a lot of them! I went straight into the perspective for wheels, which i always struggle with. The explanation on how to figure out the circle "views" and angles was amazingly simple and easy to follow. I decided to stop and start reading from the beggining. It is hard to put it down! I just want to keep reading more as it has been filling in the many blanks i have had over the years regarding perspective. Highly recommended if you are interested in drawing what you see or create your imaginary composition with at least some degree of perspective.
I have read ALOT of instructional art books and this is probably been the most grueling, complicated, confusing experience I’ve ever had reading a book. I bought it hoping it would give me the help I needed in perspective as a comic artist but lol I have basically learned nothing at all. As someone else mentioned, he talks a lot about grids but doesn’t ever show you how to make these grids that I’ve never even seen before.
I recently purchased and received both volumes of Framed Perspective (and also own Marcos' Framed Ink). This is a must have for any level of artist! Each book takes you from simple concept to intricate design step by step and with beautiful process illustrations to help visualize each discipline.I've been a working professional illustrator over 10 years now and I can say both volumes work for me as refresher course and an advanced class textbook helping me take my illustrative skills to the next level.
Framed Perspective is one of those canonical books where you eventually stop flagging every insightful page because you'll just end up flagging the entire book (see photo).The author has an unparalleled ability to communicate what previously felt like impenetrable concepts with relative ease. He accomplishes this through a bevy of practical, incisive examples that make you wonder why you were ever intimidated by perspective in the first place.And the book is structured brilliantly. Each chapter builds seamlessly on the previous one to the point where whatever question you have in your head is invariably asked and then answered (thoroughly!) as soon as you turn the page.I already had sky-high expectations (Framed Ink changed the way I think about composition), but those were easily exceeded. Together, Framed Perspective volumes 1 and 2 are far and away the best resource on perspective I've ever found, and I'm extremely grateful to the author for sharing his valuable knowledge and insight.An amazing resource!
This book is surprisingly dense with experience from Marcos Mateu-Mestre on perspective figures and examples. Just like a cooking book, Marcos goes step by step on how to use the horizon line, and guidelines to create anything in the correct perspective. From time to time, one can get lost in the plethora of text, but none of it is useless. The overall transition of information from orderly rectangles to weird angles and more organic shapes is well thought out. I hope Marcos continues to write more reference books of similar caliber! Framed Ink is also a good complement to this series. My only recommendation to him is maybe break up the structure of text block information into bullet steps somehow... so it’s not too jumpy from figure image to block text all the time.
This book starts at the beginning of understanding perspective and takes you through to very detailed, multiple focal-point drawings. I could only dream of creating the works in here. Every example has many drawings to support the idea. It is not for the absolute beginner in my opinion, but with a little work, everyone will take away something.
The book is great for any level of artist to learn perspective from. It goes over the basics of different types of lines and does a great job really breaking down the vocabulary needed to learn perspective. The book does an amazing job simplifying subjects, but too much and provides visuals that flow well with the text. One reason why I chose this book is because the emphasis on learning perspective not just to learn, but specifically for storytelling or in my case to finally bring my graphic novel to life and this book has been a huge help! Other than that the book is well made and I don't worry about the quality like others, overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase!
One of the better books that i've seen for art in general. I have the classic perspective made easy and this book is more of a good and advanced version.
